What a wonderful year Succulent Pig has had during 2017 meeting new people and also revisiting Customers from years gone by.
January 2017 started with many enquiries for Weddings coming through and our new afternoon Vintage Tea with an evening Hog Roast or Hog Roast themed BBQ Wedding menu was being well booked. The venues once laid up with the vintage crockery look very quaint especially when each couple have added their own decorations to bring the rooms to beauty.
The new year started with some lovely Hog Roasts at the Wedding Venue of the year Port Lympne Mansions where we supply hog roasts for either the Wedding reception or mainly the evening buffet.
March saw us going to Brentwood Essex Hockey club for a James Bond themed Casino Royale night with a hog roast and salads meal
At the beginning of April, we were then at the Beckenham Hockey club for their Yearly Club meal.
Succulent Pig was then awarded a contract with a large catering company which lead us to travelling up to the Wirral and doing some wedding hog roast catering at the Ness botanical gardens, Wirral, near Liverpool. The Success of the Hog Roast was to lead to further bookings to this lovely location.
The last weekend of April we had a beautiful wedding at Burham Village Hall Rochester Road, Burham, Rochester, Kent, ME1 3SH where we started the day with Reception drinks on arrival with our home-
On the Sunday we travelled to London to the banks of the River Thames in Chelsea at the Royal Corinthians Yacht Club based in Linden House 60 Upper Mall Hammersmith W6 9TA, the success of our hog roast at this prestigious Historic Building lead to us returning two more times in the coming months, and myself getting out on to the River Thames and helping in the rescue boat as I have RYA sailing and powerboat qualification.
May was an lovely time for us at Succulent Pig as every weekend of that month we had a Vintage afternoon Tea and Evening Hog Roast Wedding at lovely locations including Chilham Village Hall, Petham Village Hall, The Great Barn at Rolvenden.
We now purchased our own vintage crockery for our Vintage after noon teas and evening hog roast for weddings, private or corporate parties, and this will make the package more affordable as it is included within our pricing.
We introduced some new recipes to go with our hog Roast whole pigs including our Pulled pork with bbq and Jerk seasoning which has been a great success during the Summer and Winter of 2017 This is in addition to the whole pig roasted on display. At the end of May for the Half Term, Succulent Pig was invited to the Cyclo Park at Gravesend to run a week’s outside Café whilst Dame Kelly Holmes was having the changes made to her new Café at the Park.
The Faversham Vintage Car show 2017 was a great success again and Succulent Pig sponsorship included an awarding of one of the Trophies to a car owner.
As the warmer days appeared our Do it yourself machine hire service with our sister company The Brogdale Hogroast Hire Company resulted in bookings coming through June started with something different with us being invited to the Woods for a Hog Roast being cooked for the Artists in the Woods Faversham Kent, this was a follow on to the previous Si Fi weekend in Sittingbourne.
The summer seemed to fly by and Succulent Pig went all over the counties of Kent Essex, Sussex and Surrey and into London for many events including an invite to the South Bank development where 5 major building projects were undergoing at the same time including the new Shell Building and the new South Bank underground station. For this one event we were to feed 700 hungry Ground workers. It was beautiful day with the London Eye, and Big ben in view from our location.
Over the period of 3 months Succulent Pig were proud to be invited to provide a hog roast to all the East Kent Pilgrim Hospices to thank the staff and volunteers, we started in Canterbury and then went on to Ashford and finished the final one at the Margate Pilgrims hospice alongside the QEQM Hospital.
At the beginning of September Succulent Pig moved from its location at Canterbury back to its starting location in Folkestone and we are looking forward to the coming new year of 2018 with a range of new menus.
The Faversham Hop Festival was a great success, unfortunately because three weddings on the Saturday Succulent Pig was only present in Preston Street by the cycle shop for the Sunday but it was so lovely to sell out by the end of the day. It was great to see everyone from this town that we so like to work closely with.
News 2018 to follow
Our Butcher The Butcher of Brogdale has continued to supply as award winning meats and the hand made sausages that we supply with our hog roasts always go down as a treat, with flavours varying from Pork and sage, lamb and mint, slightly spice, pork and apple, pork and black pudding, The hog roast and a new introduction of the Welsh Dragon went down very well consisting of Pork, sage, leek and a hint of chilli, the fire of the dragon.
One of our proudest days was being involved with Kelly Jepp a member of staff for the Sevenoaks Primary School who had an idea to put on a circus in a field near Shoreham Kent September 2017. Kelly had approached me in late 2016 with this idea and I arranged to meet her at her home, we talked through the best way she could introduce a hog roast as the food element to the circus and other vendors like an ice cream van and how to sell the tickets, to include family tickets with and without food. With lots of hard work by Kelly she managed to sell the 600 tickets that were needing to cover the costs of the circus coming and the cost the hog roast which was done at cost only.
The success on the day in September 2017 was so good to see with family’s sitting around on blankets having a picnic and then the circus and then it lead to people queuing after the circus buying even more to raise funds for the school and I would like to thank Kelly for all her hard work and that everyone so enjoyed the day, and for the extra gift in the share of some of the profit that was made on the day. I look forward to hopefully working with Kelly similar project in a couple of years’ time.
The later part of September was taken with the relocation to Folkestone and then the winter seems to have flown by. We had some great winter hog roasts, including two Wedding fairs at Port Lympne Hotel and a lovely hog roast BBQ at the Red Arrows Club in Ramsgate.
Succulent Pig is proud to say that with very short notice we always seem to rise to the occasion and get the job done, this is highlighted when in December only two weeks before Christmas we received a request to feed 600 staff members of a cold storage pack house near Rainham in Kent. Succulent Pig was given only 3 days to get in 4 pigs, and purchase all the potatoes and four salads, and to find staff to cover the event. With reliable and Loyal staff Anthony with two other members attended and catered and fed all the workers and management with great thanks and compliments on the quality of the food that we were told that we would be back for 2018 summer BBQ other events that company needed catering for.
December came around very quickly with some very nice winter hog roasts on Christmas Eve in Chelsfield near Orpington, catering for a family and using our recommended Marquee company served a lovely hog roast with desserts. On New Year’s Eve it was back to Bromley for a hog roast with Salads. So I would like to say thank you to all of you that used Succulent Pig, A.Round Hog Roasts and Catering Services Ltd, for your Hog Roast, Wedding, Corporate catering requirements, for those of you that were repeat customers, and those that came by recommendation or had attended one of our events.
