Tonbridge and Royal Tunbridge Wells sit on the North of the county in the northern part of the Weald of Kent. Tonbridge is located on the River Medway and was used as a river crossing by people from pre-history. They have one of the finest examples of an original Motte-and-Bailey with an intact gatehouse built by the Normans to guard the crossing and presumably to get taxes paid.

Tonbridge has a long history of market trading and remains a vibrant town today welcoming visitors.

There are some wonderful venues for weddings and celebrations from Tonbridge Castle to nearby Penshurst Place and Ightham Mote, a half-timbered building surrounded by water both have beautiful gardens.

Royal Tunbridge Wells lies south east of Tonbridge and is located on the northern edge of the High Weald. Like Tonbridge, Royal Tunbridge Wells has a long archaeological history dating back to Iron Age with the remains of a Hill Fort located at High Rocks.

A ‘chalybeate’ spring was found by Dudley, Lord North after drinking the water he was convinced that it had healing properties. He persuaded many rich friends including Henrietta Maria wife of King Charles I and so the spa rose in popularity and over time places for the ladies and gentlemen visiting the spa were built so they could ‘take the waters’ in comfort. During the 17th century there was a rapid building programme that included the Pantiles famous for its unique luxury goods on sale to the patrons taking the waters. Royal Tunbridge Wells remained popular with the aristocracy with a visit from Albert & Victoria and then finally in 1909 Edward VII granted the Royal status in acknowledgement of long history of royal patronage and popularity.

The Spa waters still remain a visitor attraction and visitors can expect to receive the royal spa treatment at the Spa Hotel and it’s a beautiful venue with stunning gardens.

If you would like your guests greeted with a glass of champagne our front of house staff will do this as well as hand out canapes before the main course. If you would like a buffet or would like a served sit down menu we can provide the staff and chefs that you need. Prefer something smaller and more intimate we can cater for that to.

We have recently launched our traditional Vintage Afternoon tea with tasty delicate sandwiches, small cakes and a traditional cream tea with fresh scones, cream and jam. The only question left is cream first then jam or the other way round!
